Rule No. 1 – Keep them simple.
Whether you’re creating goals for you career, or life in general, there are a few tricks to achieving them.
And most of these tricks are related to how you set them in the first place.
Don’t set too many goals:
The more goals you have, the harder it is to align them. Achieving one goal should help you achieve the others.
Make your goals specific and measurable
“Become a better person” sounds like a nice goal, but you’d need to come up with a whole range of other smaller goals to make dent. “Earn 10% more monthly income within 6 months” is tough, but specific and measurable
Try to eliminate conflicting goals:
“Be a good parent” and “Be seen as a good parent” are goals that could be at odds with each other. You need to choose the goals that are most important, and focus only on those.
And as you’re setting goals, it’s also important to think about your timeline.
Long-term goals set the vision, but you need short-term goals to make headway towards that vision.
