Chances are you have a certain number of vacation days allowed by your employer every year.

Using these days strategically can do wonders for your career. If you think of yourself as a battery… your time off is time to re-charge. A fully charged battery is way better than a 15%’er, right?

So how can you maximize your time off so that you get back to work feeling great?

First, figure out how many days you should take for each vacation.

A study carried out by by the University of Tampere in Finland suggests that 8 days is the perfect amount of time to fully relax and reset.

After you figure out the duration, try to plan activities ahead. That will reduce stress during the trip, and give you specific things to get excited about. Other studies on time off suggest actively removing cell phones and computers from your life during vaca. Maybe lock them in the hotel room safe, and use a paper map.
